My name is Joel Shumway. I was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. I graduated from Mesa High School. Following high school, I attended Brigham Young University for one year.
After my first year at BYU, I served a mission in Ecuador for two years. I was able to learn Spanish while in Ecuador, which I still speak to this day.
After my mission, I graduated from BYU majoring in Business Administration in 2002. After graduation, I started dental school at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. My wife and I loved living in San Francisco and met many wonderful people while in dental school.
After I graduated from dental school, I spent over three years on active duty as a dentist in the United States Army. We were stationed in Germany at a small base 25 miles from Nuremberg. We loved our experience living overseas. We were able to visit many wonderful places and experience another culture.
We returned to Arizona in August 2008 and have since been practicing here at Shumway Dental Care. My wife, Autumn, and I have three wonderful boys named Drew, Quin, and Max. We enjoy spending time together as a family playing board games, watching our boys play on sports teams, cheering on the Phoenix Suns, and spending time outdoors.
I enjoy working here at Shumway Dental and strive to treat each patient the way I would want to be treated while providing excellent dentistry at the same time.
