Reasons for Tooth Removal
Tooth removal should only be performed when it is the best option for your health and safety. We promise to be honest and caring with our recommendations, only advising that you have your teeth pulled if it’s in your best interest.
We may recommend tooth removal for the following reasons:
- An Accident: Falling down, being hit during sports, going through a car accident, and other sources of impact can damage a tooth beyond any possibility of repair. Having your damaged teeth pulled can make way for a beautiful new tooth to be put in its place.
- Disease: Dental disease, often caused by bacterial infections, can weaken the walls of a tooth so much that the tooth cannot be saved. Tooth removal can prevent this disease from spreading to your healthy teeth.
- Tooth Crowding: A new tooth can sometimes grow in when there is not enough room for it in the mouth. It would compromise the positions of other teeth and should be removed before this happens.
- An Angled Tooth: A tooth growing in at an unhealthy angle might never be a part of a healthy smile or chewing surface. It may simply need to be pulled.
If your tooth extraction leaves a dangerously low amount of bone material in the socket, we can also perform a bone graft to prevent the socket from caving in. This will also create a strong base for a future tooth implant.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why might I need a tooth extraction?
A tooth may need to be removed if it’s severely damaged from injury, infected, or causing crowding that affects your other teeth.
Will the extraction process be painful?
Most extractions are done with local anesthesia to keep you comfortable; any discomfort after the procedure is usually mild and temporary. (General dental practice)
How long does it take to recover after an extraction?
Healing generally begins within a few days, and following your dentist’s aftercare instructions helps ensure a smooth recovery. (Post-extraction care standards)
Can a dentist extract an infected tooth?
Yes — if a tooth is badly infected and can’t be saved with other treatments, your dentist may recommend extraction to prevent the infection from spreading.
What happens after my tooth is removed?
Your dentist will provide instructions for at-home care, including how to manage swelling and protect the extraction site while it heals.
